Review: Endlessly by Kiersten White (Paranormalcy, #3)

A good conclusion to the Paranormalcy series but I kind of expected more. I counted on the nice dosage of comedy and funny dialogue when I got back into the world and the book delivered. The bad thing was sometimes this comedy got in the way of developing the characters and especially the relationship between Lend and Evie.

Lend and Evie were cute in this book but they kind of lacked spark. I found myself once again (as I did in Supernaturally) missing the Lend I met in the first book, the mischievous and unpredictable Lend. Lend didn't do much in this novel which I hated. Trying to live a human life just made him somehow... boring. What made it worse for me was Reth, the manipulative faerie, had so much more page time and his character was more complex and developed.

The author did create a memorable cast of characters but I was left craving for more. We just skimmed the surface of Jack and Raquel and David's story. If those had been touched upon more in this book, I would have surely felt more emotional leaving the world after I turned the last page. Nevertheless, a great series that was easy to devour and a fun adventure ride.

Evie finds out that being in school isn't all it's cracked up to be. When she gets contacted by Raquel about IPCA business, she can't help but accept small tasks to feel more accomplished since her grades aren't looking too good. Lend was really passive in this book and out of the loop on everything. Despite being a sweet and supportive boyfriend, he was missing his charm of unpredictability which he possessed in the first book.

The introduction of new character Jack was refreshing as he made the book more fun and entertaining while Lend was busy studying and going about his human life. The witty and hilarious jokes and comebacks are still present in this book which was a relief.

I wasn't as hooked on this book as I was with Paranormalcy. I felt something missing. It may have been the lack of interesting and exciting events (which came with her previous role at IPCA) or the lack of quality time Evie spent with Lend (she did a tonne of lying!). I felt a little underwhelmed.

To be honest, going into this book I had a feeling this would be a laid-back read. It was more than that! The author writes lighthearted and serious equally well. A particular scene was utterly spine-chilling which I wasn't expecting!

I loved the charming narrator Evie, who was kick-ass and amusing. Being inside her head was fun and entertaining. Lend, the shape-shifter who Evie caught sneaking in the IPCA centre with the director's appearance, was an awesome character. He showed that you don't need to be a bleeping-mysterious-hot-and-cold-dangerous-bad-boy to win a girl's heart. I had bad feelings towards Reth (who Evie had a thing for when she was younger), a dangerous faerie described as possessing unfathomable beauty. I applauded that the author did not go down the route of making this bad boy figure desirable.

It was understandable that Evie lost some of her upbeatness after some events. The absence of her upbeat self was quite tangible, at times making it feel like I was trudging through the book having not as much enjoyment as I had in the beginning.

There was no shocking cliffhanger at the end but the characters alone are enough to make me want to read the next installment.
